CIEL & TERRE INDIA COMMISSIONS INDIA’S ONE OF THE LARGEST FLOATING SOLAR POWER PLANT IN WEST BENGAL

CIEL & TERRE INDIA, Subsidiary of CIEL & TERRE INTERNATIONAL, Global leader in floating solar, has successfully completed the plant engineering, float supply, anchoring and mooring, and supervision of the 5.4 MWp floating solar plant at Sagardighi Thermal Power Plant by West Bengal Power Development Corporation Limited (WBPDCL) and BHEL is the EPC partner for this project.

WBPDC FLOATING PLANT NOW GETS THE UNIQUE DISTINCTION OF BEING THE WORLD’S FIRST FPV THAT IS COMMISSIONED IN A THERMAL COAL RESERVOIR…
…and it is a positive way to switch from fuel to green energy.

Hydrelio® patent Equato floats, locally manufactured under “Make in India” campaign mounted 16,880 photovoltaic panels with 320 Wp capacity BHEL make, over an area of 10.22 hectares.

This plant will produce competitive electricity to supply around 1000 homes and avoid more than 5838 tons of CO2 emissions. With the 5.4MWp plant, WBPDCL can save over 48 million liters of water from evaportaion, which can be used during the cooling water requirement in summers.

Following the successful commissioning of the 5.4 MWp floating solar plant, West Bengal Power Development Corporation Limited has floated tenders for two floating solar projects – 10 MW at Sagardighi thermal power plant and 5 MW at Singareni thermal power plant. WBPDCL is setting a good example by effectively utilizing their raw water ponds in industrial thermal power plants.

Speaking on this occasion, Deepak Ushadevi, MD CIEL & TERRE INDIA said: “Countries like India with large scale thermal power plants can take advantage of floating solar to reduce their captive consumption, water evaporation, and save land space. WBPDCL took the very first step to initiate a floating project 3 years ago and over the years, surpassed all challenges with the help of enthusiastic & passionate project management officials from WBPDCL including Mr. Bitu Biswas, the project coordinator and today we witnessed a significant milestone towards our goal for a green revolution”.

In 2019, CIEL & TERRE INDIA commissioned its first pilot 452 KWp project at CIAL Cochin and announced its installation of 14.7 MWp floating solar project in May 2021. Currently, CIEL & TERRE INDIA is executing the mega floating project to the size of 75 MWp in South India and Hydrelio floats are being produced by CIEL & TERRE INDIA at Kerala factory. This year CIEL & TERRE INTERNATIONAL, launched a Global R&D center in Bangalore for innovative engineering and new product development activities.

CIEL & TERRE INTERNATIONAL, with more than a decade of solar experience, is indulged in implementing 1.2GW of floating projects in 32 countries, 285+ bankable projects executed in 5 continents & reduced more than 510000 Tons of carbon footprints.
