Federal regulators have given ExxonMobil a five-year extension to complete and bring its Golden Pass LNG export terminal near Port Arthur, Texas into service.

In an order released on Wednesday, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission gave ExxonMobile until Nov. 30, 2026 to finish the $10 billion liquefied natural gas export project.

FERC officials originally approved the project in Dec. 2016, authorizing ExxonMobil to build a plant that could make and export 16 million metric tons of LNG per year.

Proposed to be built next to a former LNG import terminal, the export project languished until Qatar Petroleum joined ExxonMobil in a joint venture.
