SPT Offshore developed a new deep-water suction pump, the SAPS-008, for installing suction piles in water depths up to 3,000m. The pump unit is the first of its kind to have an integrated upend and lift appliance certified for suction piles up to 300 tons.

The new pump was introduced to develop oil fields in the South China sea with water depths between 380-420m. SPT Offshore was responsible for project management, review and verification of detailed design, detailed installation methodology and procedures, installation engineering, offshore preparation and execution.

SPT Offshore successfully installed 9# 5.5m OD x 12m deep mooring suction piles weighing 121 ton using its innovative SAPS-008 deepwater suction pump/lift tool in a record time of 7 days offshore.

The deepwater suction pump & lift tool was specifically developed for the very large suction anchors, as used for this project in China.
