TotalEnergies joins several large-scale research and development platforms for Offshore Wind projects in the Netherlands
Aligned with TotalEnergies’ commitment to better energy, Innovation is central to the Company’s global ambitions. Through a large R&D program, TotalEnergies focusses on promoting offshore wind installation and operation technologies that protect and strengthen marine life, as well as advancing biodiversity monitoring. TotalEnergies also targets an integrated and sustainable energy system with power to X solutions, EV charging, other energy storage technologies and a circular economy.
To support its strong offshore wind development ambitions in the Netherlands recently reflected in the Holland Coast West VI/VII offshore wind farm tenders participation, and to explore renewable marine energy technologies, TotalEnergies is pleased to announce it is partnering with several key organizations in the Netherlands, NWEA, DMEC and with SIMOX (for which partnering is in progress):
In the Netherlands Wind Energy Association (NWEA), TotalEnergies will promote the development of wind energy to achieve a sustainable Dutch energy supply;
The SIMOX project (Sustainable Installation of XXL Monopiles) will enable TotalEnergies to develop and to implement innovative and noiseless technologies for the installation of XXL monopiles to protect biodiversity in the North Sea. SIMOX is part of the GROW research program (Growth through Research, Development & Demonstration in Offshore Wind in the Netherlands) in which TotalEnergies is willing to contribute;
The Dutch Marine Energy Center (DMEC), International accelerator specialized in marine renewable energy, will bring to TotalEnergies, solutions to generate clean power from oceans, seas and rivers.
“We are pleased to join several Offshore Wind platforms and the Marine Excellence Centre for Clean Energy in the Netherlands to develop and demonstrate cost-effective and reliable technology solutions for offshore wind and hybrid systems as well as ensuring highest ecological benefits from our activities. This cooperation is one more step towards our ambition to be Net Zero by 2050 in harmony with nature and together with society, and our decarbonation objectives in the country,” says Robert Joore, Country Chair of TotalEnergies in the Netherlands.
Beyond these R&D projects TotalEnergies has already engaged in a vast development program of new energies solutions for the Netherlands. Such as, large-scale green hydrogen projects supported by our two showcase electrolyzer projects H2Ero (150 MW) and EnergHys (264 MW), deployment of EV charging and H2 mobility stations and active participation in a major Carbon Capture project.
This integrated portfolio is expected to be completed by offshore wind solutions and specially by the Holland Coast West offshore wind farms (HKW) which will allow TotalEnergies to reach the carbon neutrality objectives of the Company in the country.
About TotalEnergies in the Netherlands
TotalEnergies is demonstrating one of its strengths on a country scale: its integrated business model. TotalEnergies has been present in The Netherlands for almost a century in several value chains including gas production, renewable energies, refining and chemicals production. With our 1,800 employees in the country, we also have more than 400 service stations and about 11,000 EV charging points in five provinces.
TotalEnergies is a global multi-energy company that produces and markets energies: oil and biofuels, natural gas and green gases, renewables, and electricity. Our more than 100,000 employees are committed to energy that is ever more affordable, cleaner, more reliable, and accessible to as many people as possible. Active in more than 130 countries, TotalEnergies puts sustainable development in all its dimensions at the heart of its projects and operations to contribute to the well-being of people.
Total has become TotalEnergies, a broad energy company moving towards new energies. TotalEnergies produces and markets energy on a global scale in electricity, renewables and (green) fuels. At the end of 2021, TotalEnergies has already secured 42 GW of renewables projects pipeline over the world, including more than 10 GW of projects in construction and operation, TotalEnergies is already one of the major offshore wind companies and puts sustainable development in all its dimensions at the heart of its projects and operations to contribute to the well-being of people.
As part of its ambition to get to net-zero by 2050, TotalEnergies is building a portfolio of activities in renewables and electricity. TotalEnergies continues to expand its renewables business to reach 35GW of gross production capacity from renewable sources and storage by 2025 and will reach 100 GW by 2030. TotalEnergies is already developing a portfolio of offshore wind projects with a total capacity of more than 11 GW, of which 3/4 are bottom-fixed and 1/4 are floating.
